Mark Steger-

I'm flattered and all that you have me on your Google Alerts, but stop busting my balls on the DMN website! :)

Assuming nothing else earth shattering happens in the next few days....I'm on vacation.

What's wrong with lawyer jokes? Lawyers don't think they're funny and other people don't think they're jokes.

Watching the video of Pete Smith at last night's work session was....uncomfortable. So to lighten the mood, I will dedicate today's blog to some of my favorite lawyer jokes!

Why won't sharks attack lawyers?
Professional courtesy.

How does an attorney sleep?
First he lies on one side, and then on the other.

Ignorance of the law excuses no man - from practicing it. - Adison Mizner

There are two kinds of lawyers: those who know the law and those who know the judge.

If a lawyer and an IRS agent were both drowning, and you could only save one of them, would you go to lunch or read the paper?

Isn't it a shame how 99% of the lawyers give the whole profession a bad name. (I threw this one in for you Schnurr)

and my favorite...

A lawyers walks into a work session and says "I can see that I'm not on everybody's Christmas card list but that's ok. We lawyers are thick skinned and use to being blamed and taking the blame for controversial issues...." ba-da-chhhhhhh

*even Keff seemed a bit annoyed by that one*

Dear Concerned Friends,

The Richardson City Council will be meeting in a work session at 6 p.m. on Monday night, 12/21/09, at the Richardson City Hall located at 411 W. Arapaho in Richardson. This is the building near the library and the Santa's Village on the south side of Arapaho just west of Central.

There will be a visitor's section at the beginning of the meeting and then a briefing by the City Attorney on the court case that was recently heard in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. This is the case that Richardson citizen, William Gordon ("just a citizen" - with no standing to file this case according to Richardson City Attorney, Pete Smith) filed when it was discovered several years ago that the City had not been following its own charter for many years with regard to "secret meetings". Their Executive Sessions were not allowed according to the City Charter and Mr. Gordon filed suit against the City for these violations and also wanted to see the minutes of the Executive Sessions. In the appeals hearing Mr. Smith stated that "the citizens had no right to see those minutes". This arrogant attitude is the same one we are seeing in the leadership of the House and the Senate with regard to current federal legislation.

Come join other concerned citizens Monday night at this work session to hear Mr. Pete Smith address the City Council with regard to this case. You can read more about what is going on in the City at

Monday night's agenda is listed below. It would be great to have a large crowd. I will be in Colorado but will watch it. ( then scroll down to click on "watch council meetings live" on right side)

Be informed. Stay involved. You CAN make a difference!

Mark Solomon You Are As Dead To Me As Those Fetus' You Eat!

(And like, duh, we already know you are a senior, no need to include that in your name)
So Tannery, it's up to you to talk some sense into him or you're dead to me too!

So as I was diligently surfing the People Of Walmart website....

I stumbled upon a few pictures that looked vaguely familiar and I thought this could make for a fun game.

Try and guess the local celebrity look alike!

4.Well, duh, the last one is me of course.....because I also have black hair and flippin love America.....and sports bras.

Btw, I can tell by the very fact you are here that you obviously like wasting time, so you must add this site to your list of daily vegetative nonsense: PeopleOfWalmart

Now get to guessing!

Gary Joined My Richardson Facebook Group...

I feel so honored.

BTW, this guy was my guess for who Ed is/was. His name's Scott Dunn and I bet he's so totally stoked that I'm posting his pic on here (but the link only works for those with fbook). Anyway, I'll take it down once the ink on the restraining order is dry.

You know that chore you keeping putting off because you dread doing it so much?

Yeah, so blah blah blah something about how racist Nate Dog Mo was last night during his visitors section comments blah blah blah insert joke about how his jokes bombed and it as kinda uncomfortable/creepy/awkward blah blah blah Wild Bill thinks he should be banned from ever speaking again blah blah blah please don't trash the 5-minute rule prematurely guys.

And then David covers the Schnurr factor here, which was totally BA.

By the way, Jimmy's look'n pretty fly these might surmise he's getting into fighting shape.

Anybody Go To The Guerilla HOA Prez Meeting This Morning?

If so, I'd like to hear more about it. I've heard from a few people that it was relatively mild and pretty constructive...

Per Will:

"...approx 20 individuals (HOA presidents, HOA representatives, a blogger who shows at most Richardson related meetings) ... came to learn the latest about LOTS.

There was discussion, all of it enlightening, including some back and forth about how best to make the LOTS discussion/negotiation with City Hall a "win-win" for City Hall and the citizens of Richardson.

There continues to be an avalanche of facts, opinions, and options on the LOTS topic. That's understandable because, hey, it's not a simple thing! Moving the transfer station east or north? Screening walls, odor containment, number of trucks that make sense?

Add in "volume" and the average citizen (and likely some on City Council) is close to information overload.

John, George and Maitri tried their best and did a good job bringing the group up to date and keeping the complicated issue discussion pretty well on track.

A mid-January meeting with City Hall (and the District?) is coming up. There might be other contacts with City Hall (letters, face to face discussion, etc.).

Many in Richardson see this as an issue for the neighborhoods that border the LOTS. Not so! It's an entire-City issue. Only one reason (out of many reasons):

If there is negative impact in that area because a poorly-thought-out Transfer Station is put in place, commercial development can take a hit. That can be significant because of the huge amount of to-be-developed land between Renner and The Bush.

Trash trucks make a left turn at Renner and Plano Roads all day long - and if their number increases, and commercial development is impacted, tax dollars "go south"."

By far the coolest thing....

to come from my silly DMN article, thus far, is this e-mail I received earlier today:

"This is a system generated message informing you that the above-named person is a federal prisoner who seeks to add you to his/her contact list for exchanging electronic messages. There is no message from the prisoner at this time.

You can ACCEPT this prisoner's request or BLOCK this individual or all federal prisoners from contacting you via electronic messaging at To register with CorrLinks you must enter the email address that received this notice along with the identification code below."

ACCEPT, duh.

My Three Favorite Words: YOU WERE RIGHT

Or in your case, I was right.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, haters!

Now you might be wondering if I just said that in a condescending, snooty voice? And the answer would be yes. Yes, I did.

I can only assume.....

As I stated below, EVERY Republican from Dallas & Collin County was at this Christmas party Tuesday night, even Chuck "the Twitter Blocker" Eisemann, so I can only assume.....

Mayor Gary Slagel of Richardson is a huge flaming Liberal;
Candy Bomber Bob Townsend is a Liberal;
John Murphy is a Donkey Loving Democrat;
Bob Townsend is tree-hugging Liberal,
& Mark Solomon is more than likely the fetus eating Democrat I suspected he was months ago....
what a shame.

DCRP, DCNRC, AARP & RRWC's "Holiday Party" Extravaganza!

Tuesday Night there was basically a huge Republican mash-up at the Prestonwood Country Club, which I must say, was a stellar idea! I was able to hit 3 'holiday' parties with one babysitter. Next year if you could also include the Conservative Hispanic Society, Golden Corridor Republican Women and my Husband's company, I'll have it made in the shade.

It felt like EVERYBODY in local politics was there, and from the looks of the introduction line, the elected officials outnumbered us regular folks two to one.

Since I had to use my wine holding hand to take pictures I reserved such an honor only for my favorites, and here they are:

Will Hartnett who shows up every year at the Dallas March For Life.

Chris Davis and Steve Mitchell for obvious reasons.

Steve not only greeted us 'MERRY CHRISTMAS' but also signed off with a 'GOD BLESS AMERICA!'

David Smith, who surprisingly did not get boo-ed out of the room when he started harping on ol' Petey. A man after my own heart...Angie Chen Button, who totally took the cake for awkward moment of the evening (as shown in the horribly lit video below) when she asked all of her supporters to raise there hands, and both of them did.Steph Carter, I really think she should start opening up with a joke. She's so serious all the time, but hey that's just my opinion. Most Repubs like serious, I guess. And then my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE person running for congress (against EBJ), Pastor Stephen Broden who was very well liked by everyone in the room...I watched him pick a fight engage in a thought provoking discussion with a Planned Parenthood rep two summers ago, and I don't know if you can say this about a man of the cloth, but he is a total x10. He completely understands the minority population control aspect of abortion and is trying to wake up his community about this blatant form of racism. Here was my sign from that protest (Check out my shadow-it made the message so much more effective, ha!)But I digress. Another Eddie Bernice Johnson opponent (previously, of course) Amir Omar, showed up just in time to witness me belligerently schmoozing this button off of some poor volunteer's lapel, which I shall wear with pride!...even though there is some debate over whether or not it is cursed.Oh, and I also got a pic with Rob Schlein, president of the Log Cabin Republicans. He's fabulous, of course! And then, at the end of the evening I was asked to take some pics of the Richardson Republican Women swearing in their newest officers, which was pretty cool. All in all, I would say that this CHRISTMAS party was a huge success, and wine, so yeah.

Texas Tea, BBQ & NPR

So just by fluke Abe and I went to Spring Creek Barbeque tonight for dinner, and lo and behold the Tea Party folks were there also.

After we ate, I went and crashed their tea party so that I could get a pic of this guy who I had seen in line earlier.
How wonderful is he?!?! We both agreed that this latest beef between B.O. and Snoopy was just taking it way too far. What about the children?!?!?!

Anyway, as I was slipping out the door I overheard Ken Emanuelson telling someone that the camera crew (who had been filming in there the whole time) was actually NPR. Who wants to wager on just exactly how glowing a report they'll be giving on the Tea Party peeps, huh? Because OBVIOUSLY it'll be glowing, right?

{Abrahm's Table Side Observation: "There sure are a lot of baldies in this tea party."}

A Win/Win Solution. You're Welcome.

Last night there was a brief discussion about the increasingly complex 5-minute rule and all of the confusion surrounding it - when it really has been 5 minutes and how Pam can clearly let Gary know so that he can cut the visitors off in a timely manner, showing no favor to his paramours.

Well, I think I have come up with a solution that will make everyone happy, especially Nathan Morgan. Gary should only pull the 5-minute rule out when it is completely necessary. And in order to assure said rule is reserved for such dire occasions, I suggest we implement something like this...
Basically abolishing the 5-minute rule except for when we really, really, REALLY need it, because unfortunately those times do exist. But in the end you can take joy in knowing that making the call will hurt Gary more than it hurts you. Se, win/win, like I said.

City Hall Open To Open Records Job Opening

....and if I heard Keff correctly, it pays 56k including benefits. As someone who has never once made an open records request I think I should be eligible to apply....well, except for my lack of clerical skill and my inability to deal with all the record requesting kooks in this city. Oh, no wait! I have both of those. Yeah, I'm definitely a shoe in.
(kooks -n. meaning: my friends - see also: term of endearment)

In related news, Bob Macy of course had something to say about this new open record retriever position, it rambled along the lines of 'but is there a way to figure out EXACTLY how much money it costs us to fulfill these requests for those people?' And while his question took a good 2-3 full minutes to ask, the council basically treated him like a visitor and refused to respond, moving on to another question.

That's one way to put out a fire.

And speaking of fire-what's this about our City Council riding on a fire truck for the Christmas parade this saturday? To me a better use of tax payer money would be something more along these lines...But hey, putting out Macy fires is just as noble a feat I would assume.

So that's what Pete Smith looks like.....

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeal hearing of the lawsuit against COR is now scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM. (not 10)

Be there or be square.

Dear Richardson Residents and Tea Party Friends,

I believe the reason we are contending with such corruption and misappropriation of power at the highest levels of government is because we did not involve ourselves properly to stop it at the lowest levels of government.

You will have an opportunity on Tuesday, December 1st to attend a court hearing at the Fifth District Court of Appeals that involves our City of Richardson and one of its citizens, Mr. William Gordon, who has taken the city to court because of its neglect to follow its own City Charter.

The case began back in October 2007.  It is fundamentally a case about a City government that believes it can do whatever it wants to do, regardless of rules established in the City Charter by its residents, including conduction closed meetings with no transparency to voters.

Benjamin Franklin once said, "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security."  It is important that the City and the Court see just how important this case is to those of us who care about Richardson, and how our rights and liberties are being so poorly protected by City officials.

The Hearing will take place on the second  floor of the George Allen Courthouse Building located at 600 Commerce Street in downtown Dallas at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1st.  This white multi-story building is directly south of the beautiful Old Red Courthouse.  There is underground parking available underneath Old Red with the entrance on Commerce Street at Houston Street.

If you can take the time to come and support this citizen, William Gordon, who is merely trying to ensure that his city follows its charter, conducts its business in legal and transparent fashion and for the benefit of all of the citizens...not just the select few who have for decades enjoyed the special perks and privilege reserved for those in the "In Crowd" in Richardson; please come downtown and stand with him to bring honesty and transparency back to our local municipal government.

Should you desire more information, more detailed background information is provided below.  Please pass this information on to other Richardson residents.

“It is not the function of our Government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the function of the citizen to keep the Government from falling into error.”  Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson

Happy Thanksgiving!

And please remember, like the mayor would probably say,
"DRINK RESPONSIBLY!"This message brought to you by the folk who think this is what the mayor would probably say. more than likely. If they had to guess.

As a charismatic, I'm use to all this hollering out...just not at council meet'n's

Ok, so I watched the council meeting video-got an e-mail from John Wallberg-forwarded it to David-he did all of the work and I'm linking to it here now.

This is an except from what Wallberg sent me:

"We had this timed out as:

Intro: 3 min
Me: 4 min
George: 5 min
Closing: 3 min

for a total of 15 minutes. If you were to look at the time remaining when the mayor jumped in, you would see that we still had ~3 minutes left."

Upon watching the video again, which has so graciously timed for us (go down to Item 4), you can clearly see that David and John's assessments were pretty accurate. They were slighted on time.

This brings us to the Mitch, though. In all fairness, Amir also interrupted, but was ignored. Steve Mitchell on the other hand, interrupted and would not let Gary ignore him. Was it rude or was he just being assertive? Probably a little bit of both.

The odd thing is I've watched Slagel give Nathan Morgan (of all people) more than his alloted time, on more than one occasion. Pam starts rolling her eyes and begins raising her watch higher and higher in the air. I start quietly imagining that Nathan and Gary have a secret Carville/Matalin type romance that we're all just oblivious to and this is just how they flirt, which makes me smile, and then eventually Gary will have Nathan wrap things up. Like I said, this happens time and time again.

Either way, though, last night the Owens Parker's did not seduce the mayor as much as Mr.Morgan normally does so they got cut off. Steve then promptly reciprocated by cutting Gary off. Kind of awkward, but in the end, it was the perfect storm and I hate that I missed it, because everyone there was able to witness, what I believe might have been, the. most. immediate. delivery. of. karma. ever. ever, ever.

The only thing that could have made this better would've been if Kanye West himself had shown up to then cut Steve off.

Last Night's Council Meeting....

Ok, so I wrote this blurb last night, but I feel like I should expound a bit.

The 5-minute rule was not unfair to last night's presenters. The fact that they were having to present during the visitors section is what was unfair. They should have been alloted time on the agenda, because Lord knows, we've all been hearing about this issue for months in the visitors section.

Obviously it's time that the city show some respect and at least hear them out, try to formulate a solution and come to an agreement. And while not everyone will like it, at least the neighborhoods can feel like they were heard. At this rate though, Richardson is making some real enemies. Allowing people to feel like they were "wronged," just because you don't want to involve them, is not the best way to handle this issue. There may be little that can be done, but at least show them the respect of listening and working with them. After all, this is their home, and this does effect their quality of life, which at one point on the campaign trail, many of you cared about.

Log Cabin Republicans...unfortunately, they have no affiliation with pancakes.

But that's ok. They were still a really swell group. Trey Garrison was the guest speaker, and he did a fabulous job at equating gay rights to gun rights.Another great line came from our hostess with the mostest, Robert (the club prez), who said that now Republicans understand how they feel, since many of us are 'in the closet' these days, politically.

In all fairness.....

there time was up, David. A 5 -minute rule implemented by none other than my very own Jesus Christ Super Star councilman....

If people started thinking they could sway the council into allowing them more time, I think I would probably stop showing up at the council meetings. (shut up! I know I didn't show up tonight, but I have a FABULOUS excuse, and I'm about to post all about it)

Mark took the blame for most of it...

as he rightfully should. :)

I however lame lay claim *cue dog lifting let on hydrant* to this line: "Others have brought up issues of ethnicity. This too is misplaced if not a ignorant and insulting criticism."

That was all me Steger, so step off.
(you're the 'other' blog)

Gobble Hobble '09

Who would've thought a day that started before 6am, while it was still dark and cold, would have turned out to be such a blast!

To those of you who have never participated in the Gobble Hobble before I highly recommend doing it next year! Whether you run/walk/volunteer you're sure to have a great time! (I promise a PR rep for the Gobble Hobble did not just write that...but maybe they should hire me)

Chief Spivey was there, of course, and Amir with his stroller...

and also Deputy City Manager Dan Johnson (who was wearing a hat, otherwise I DEFINITELY would've recognized him). I didn't have my camera ready when I saw him, so please enjoy this photoshop rendering. IMO, it's spot on.There were tons of ADORABLE kids...A lot of faux fur......and even more not so faux fur was also on display....(I have a fabulous picture of this guy either doing yoga or stretching, just e-mail me if you'd like to see it)

But not everything was sunshine, lollipops & rainbows unfortunately, a flasher was taken into custody right before the race began...Ba-da-chhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

And then they were off! While the run/walkers did there thing I went to go have my picture taken with the Official Gobble Hobble mascot. {picture withheld do to bad smiling angle-ness} Obviously I'm 12.

Then before we knew it, the runners where headed for the finish line.

These two guys kept jetting ahead of one another, but finally 673 took the lead and won!As for the Man with Stroller division, your honorable city councilman came in first place.
Another person deserving of some honorable mention was this guy, 1474, I have never seen anybody arm pump more feircely in my life...And one more honorable mention for this guy, for having the most awesome hair I think I have ever seen...
Abrahm, take notes, this is totally what I want you to do once a few more of those grays start showing up. (btw, happy 32nd b-day!-a day late)

What a great event!!!

*Also, on a side note- Corblog, I think I finally got to the bottom of all that superfluous overtime pay....puppets.....with car allowances.

Warning: Collin County - Watch Out For Snakes!

"The most popular explanation I've heard for the investigation against Willis is that the DA and his chief assistants do not want Judge Willis to become the next District Attorney - they believe that if he is elected, he will "clean house" by replacing many of the lead prosecutors.

Local attorneys point to what they say is a history of using grand juries for intimidation by DA Roach and Chris Milner, the Chief of the District Attorney's Special Crimes Division."

Dallas County North Republican Club Of Texas Affiliates Of Richardson On Lookout

(sorry, I was just trying to make the name a little bit longer, Vincent)

Anyway, last night at the DCNRC, I ran into none other than Steph Carter...
which is kind of crazy since I probably haven't seen her in over a year, then I mention her on C&P and bam, two days later there she is! So maybe I should (Alan Keyes) try that with (Sen Cornyn) some other (John McEnroe) people whom I'd (Sarah Palin) like to meet. (ok, we'll see if that works-and yeah McEnroe's not a politician, but I still really want to meet him)

Moving along, Steph's opponent, Alex P. keaton, who I recognized from this DMN Richardson blog post was also there. Very nice guy, worked on Rudy Giuliani's campaign before, but I will hold that against him. no typo. Also spotted was Chuck E., Denny, Diane Wardrup and some guy who Epstein yelled at for being on his cell phone, which IMO, was totally bad ass.

So if you ever see this guy, ESPECIALLY if he's wearing his fatigues, DO NOT leave your ringer on, and certainly DO NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE AND START TALKING WHILE HE'S IN THE MIDDLE OF SPEAKING IF SOMEONE CALLS!!!

Oy vey, some people just have no class-says the person who was tweeting most of the meeting (but hey, at least my rudity was quiet).

And for all you Facebookers who wanna support Steph, click below.....
