In all fairness.....

there time was up, David. A 5 -minute rule implemented by none other than my very own Jesus Christ Super Star councilman....

If people started thinking they could sway the council into allowing them more time, I think I would probably stop showing up at the council meetings. (shut up! I know I didn't show up tonight, but I have a FABULOUS excuse, and I'm about to post all about it)

  1. That five minute rule should be flexible (and it is sometimes even for some surprising individuals). When Nathan goes a bit long, the Slag, most of the time, is flexible and does allow him to continue for a short amount of time over 5 minutes. And the old NEW council did create the rule, not the slag's gang. So when it comes to a "fair" POV, you rule! I am not so fair all the time. Just built in biases.

  2. A practical workaround might be to bring more folks to sign up for speaking if the point is not presentable in <= 5mins.

  3. I believe that's what they did. They had three presenters and spoke for 15 minutes+.

  4. There's precedent. From October 26...

"Open mike night usually permits each speaker five minutes. Mayor Slagel allowed the three HOA reps to divide up their time, fifteen minutes total, however they'd like. As it turned out, they divided up their time pretty evenly, but wacks out there who want more than five minutes to harangue the city council might have just seen a loophole. Bring your spouse or a friend or two and request five minutes for each to discuss the same subject, then ask for permission to divide up your time how you need. That way, one of you can get ten or fifteen minutes of weekly fame. At least for one week, before the rules are tightened to prevent habitual exploitation of tonight's exception to the rules."

  6. Good idea Mark, and I am sure that will be a new tactic. Hint - if you have lots to say, tag team the event!

But last night they did approach GAS before the meeting, and even then, GAS was not please and short(er) with the residents.

  7. Listen to yourselves! "Slagel allowed" citizens to make their case. Representatives "give" the public five minutes. Where do you think you live, Communist China? This is the land of the free and home of the brave. Grow a pair and live like it! Don't let some piss-ant public servant tell you when you can speak, for how long, or on what topic. Are we men or mice? skweek!
