Dear Concerned Friends,

The Richardson City Council will be meeting in a work session at 6 p.m. on Monday night, 12/21/09, at the Richardson City Hall located at 411 W. Arapaho in Richardson. This is the building near the library and the Santa's Village on the south side of Arapaho just west of Central.

There will be a visitor's section at the beginning of the meeting and then a briefing by the City Attorney on the court case that was recently heard in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. This is the case that Richardson citizen, William Gordon ("just a citizen" - with no standing to file this case according to Richardson City Attorney, Pete Smith) filed when it was discovered several years ago that the City had not been following its own charter for many years with regard to "secret meetings". Their Executive Sessions were not allowed according to the City Charter and Mr. Gordon filed suit against the City for these violations and also wanted to see the minutes of the Executive Sessions. In the appeals hearing Mr. Smith stated that "the citizens had no right to see those minutes". This arrogant attitude is the same one we are seeing in the leadership of the House and the Senate with regard to current federal legislation.

Come join other concerned citizens Monday night at this work session to hear Mr. Pete Smith address the City Council with regard to this case. You can read more about what is going on in the City at www.dc-tm.blogspot.com.

Monday night's agenda is listed below. It would be great to have a large crowd. I will be in Colorado but will watch it. http://cor.net/CITV.aspx?id=10709 (http://cor.net then scroll down to click on "watch council meetings live" on right side)

Be informed. Stay involved. You CAN make a difference!

  1. Should be interesting - but, folks, don't hold your breath on anything being "earth-shattering" - that will probably all occur behind the scenes between Keffler, Smith, and Slagel.

Oh, and the executive session item, based on the addresses, sounds like StarTech - boo hiss. Now, that one should be deliberated in public.

  2. agree anon 3:19 PM - nothing "earth shattering" but a statement can be made if there is a large group of Citizens in the room as Attny Pete gives his thoughts on the case.

He is the 'face' of the City of Richardson and from what I hear and read, he is making us look like fools.

  3. The "Collins/Plano Rd Area" covers a lot of ground. To be sure, if the topic is "high tech" it will be on the STARTech side of the road. There are quite a few buildings, inclucing the old Electrospace building, that looks to be an optics factory now. If memory serves, I think one of those massive buildings is, like our STARTech facility, tax exempt. Wouldn't you like to run your business at a tax exempt address? Slagel did. While it lasted.
